Types of Sacramento Mole Traps

Moles are rodents which feed on insects and bugs in the garden. They live underground and work through tunnels and chambers. They become a nuisance when they make a mess of your garden and lawn. The best ways of keeping moles away is by trapping and changing the soil properties to make it less appealing. Killing moles may not appeal to all. There are some traps where Sacramento moles are caught and not killed. They involve simple methods. There are two methods given below. Method 1: When you notice California mole activity approach the tunnel. Take a shovel and stick it in the different direction directly in front of where the tunnel is leading. As soon as the mole nears the shovel stick another shovel behind the mole. The mole gets trapped and will start digging up to come out. Place a large bucket or garbage can upside down and trap it. The mole can then be taken and left in a faraway place. Method 2: Observe the molehill and find the tunnels under it. Dig under the tunnel and place a glass jar or bucket in the area where you are sure the Sacramento mole will cross. The jar must be kept in such a way so that any mole crossing that falls into it. The sides of the jar being slippery the mole will not be able to climb out. Remove the container and release the mole away from the home.

Commercial traps are available online or in hardware stores. There are three types of mole traps available. Some traps are a combination of these types.
1. Harpoon style trap: In this trap two stacks are placed in the ground on each side of the mole’s underground tunnel. A large stake when triggered will come down on the mole.
2. Scissor jaw trap: This trap has to be buried under the ground. These have two blades that set into the ground. When triggered they snap together like scissors.
3. Choker loop trap: They are also buried underground deeper than the tunnel. The choker loop traps have to run in the correct direction so that the loop can close over the animal. Trapping California moles requires practice and patience. Traps have to be tested before to ensure that they work well. The place where you set the trap is important and regular checking has to be done to see if any mole is caught.
