Is It Okay To Feed A Sacramento Squirrel?

Have you ever looked at a squirrel and said that would be a cool pet? I think it’s a bad idea. Squirrels are better left in the wild. This type of animal is meant to live in the wild. It’s not a house pet like your dog, cat, or chicken is. I know they are a very cute animal, however it’s still a big no to have inside your home. I strongly suggest not feeding any wild animal. However, if you feel you can’t control yourself than please remember all the safety rules for feeding an animal. Due look over the following information very carefully it could just save yours or a Sacramento squirrels life. Don’t feed wild animals even if it’s a squirrel. Household pets are fine with humans unlike wild animals. A squirrel or any other wild animal has to think of defending its self at all times. You might be killed by the squirrel even if you was only trying to be a friend.



Bites can occur at feeding time.
How can such a cute and fluffy animal be so dangerous to feed? This is the naturally defiance instinct kicking in. When animal is in the wild it has to fight for food. As you are feeding the squirrel it may see your fingers as other animals. What may happened next it you get bitten and loose a finger. Tiny little claws and teeth feel like knives when hurting you.

Squirrel can cause death.
If you are bitten or injured in any way during the feeding you might become sick. The animal can have diseases that can be passed on to you without knowing it. Just to name a couple, Lyme disease and Salmonella are the two biggest diseases you can get. If you just have to try to feed a squirrel, than look over the next few steps for safety.
1-If a California squirrel starts toward you throw peanuts at a safe distance to the animal.
2-Each time you feed the animal throw the peanuts at shorter distance.
3-Once the animal is within a foot from you don’t move.
4-Drop the peanut close to your hand for a few days to allow the animal to smell you.
5-Sit very still with food in your hand. Peanuts are a favorite squirrel food.
6-When the animal removes the peanut from your hand make a sound like he does. This means you and he are ok with each other.
7-Turn your head and hands slowly to show you have nothing left. These movements with make the Sacramento squirrel run a way.
8- Return to same area at the same time to train the animal.

Wild animals are just that wild. No matter if you love or dislike an animal please respect it and the surrounding they live in. The animals are great to watch in your own yard on any given day. However feeding can become a trouble ling thing to do. Once again its best not to feed any wild animal.
